Urgent Computing Workshop at ICCS 2017

The Art of Computational Science. Bridging Gaps Forming Alloys

Complex, large-scale, collaborative simulations are becoming more and more crucial for decision making in critical situations like floods, earthquakes, wildfires, terroristic attacks, epidemics, pandemics, instabilities in financial markets and similar. Very often they are run in almost real time. Urgent computing is a new interdisciplinary research area of computer science addressing algorithms, methods and tools enabling prioritized and immediate access to distributed, large compute and storage systems (computers, grids, clouds) for such emergency computations required for clever decision making. This type of simulation provides data to decision support systems enabling decision makers to choose an optimal behavior scenario in time limitations.

Urgent computing is still in development and the main aim of this workshop is to assess its current status and identify the most important challenges. In 2017 Urgent Computing workshop will take place for the 6th time in the framework of International Conference on Computational Science (ICCS).

We invite users and developers of time limited applications, scientists working on methods and tools for urgent computing, resources providers, and decision makers to submit papers addressing topics related to urgent computing.

Papers

We invite you to submit manuscripts reporting original, unpublished research and recent developments or innovative practical application in the area of urgent computing technologies and decision support systems for critical situations.

The submitted papers must not exceed ten pages in length, when typeset using the Procedia format (download Latex template with instructions or MS Word template ).

At least one author of an accepted paper should register at the conference site and present the paper at the workshop.

Procedia Computer Science

All accepted papers will be printed in the conference proceedings published by Elsevier Science in the open-access Procedia Computer Science series.

the Journal of Computational Science

After the conference, selected papers will be invited for a special issue of the Journal of Computational Science.
